United Way of Hancock County has announced Dave Whikehart as this year’s recipient of the Jeri Bjorling Memorial Distinguished Volunteer Award.
Whikehart was selected because of his role as a community volunteer and for his 15 year volunteer relationship with United Way of Hancock County.
He has been a member of United Way’s community solutions committee since 2001 and the Halt Hunger Initiative from 2013 to 2015. Whikehart served on United Way’s board of directors from 2009 to 2015, serving as board chair from 2013 to 2014 and strategic planning chair from 2014 to 2015.
Whikehart has also served as a volunteer for the Guiding Stars program since 2002 and the Miracle Field adaptive baseball program since its inception in 2014. He is a board member of Owens Community College Foundation board and has been since 2009.
Whikehart has been employed by Marathon Petroleum Corporation since 1981, beginning as a project/process engineer in Robinson, Illinois. He has most recently taken on the role as vice president of environment, safety and corporate affairs.
Whikehart will be honored at the upcoming United Way of Hancock County annual meeting on Tuesday, April 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn. The event is open to the public and cost to attend is $30.00 per person, or $240 for a table of eight.
