FINDLAY, OH (Sept. 14, 2023) — Each year, a crucial team of community volunteers — an Impact Team — helps United Way of Hancock County in its funding decisions by reviewing grant applications and providing input as to where campaign dollars will have the greatest local impact. United Way is seeking additional volunteers to serve on Impact Teams by Sept. 24.
“The community’s involvement in this process is vital,” said Angela DeBoskey, CEO of United Way of Hancock County. “Giving the community a chance to let their voice be heard in this process helps ensure that the most critical problems in our community are addressed. This is a great opportunity to make a difference in the lives of Hancock County residents.”
Local nonprofit agencies apply yearly for funding from proceeds raised through United Way’s annual campaign. These applications are reviewed by members of United Way’s Grant Review Committee and Impact Team members in the areas of quality programming, finance and administration. Recommendations on which nonprofit agencies to fund and at what level is made by these volunteers, with the support of United Way staff. The board of directors uses these recommendations to determine final grant awards.
United Way of Hancock County has set this year’s campaign goal at $2 million. Every donation made to the campaign stays in Hancock County to measurably improve people’s lives.
Impact Team volunteers will take a short training course in late September and can expect to review seven to 10 grant applications at their leisure during October. No grant reading experience is needed. Impact Team members will meet in November to discuss the applications and make recommendations for 2024 agency funding.
