FINDLAY, OH (Feb. 28, 2022) – For both nonprofits looking to submit projects for help and the volunteers who will complete them, registration opens Tuesday for United Way of Hancock County’s 28th Annual Days of Caring.
The spring event will take place May 2-6.
During Days of Caring, employees of area corporations and small businesses lend a hand to local organizations. Nonprofits in need of help submit projects, volunteer teams register to help, and the United Way matches up the two groups. In four-hour shifts, the volunteers take on projects such as landscaping, organizing, painting, planning an event, cleaning, or construction. Shifts run from 8am-12pm or 12-4pm.
“Volunteering, especially in large numbers like this, is a powerful way to make a huge impact in our community,” said Sarah Mayle, volunteer coordinator for UWHC. “Last year, between our spring and fall Days of Caring events, more than 700 volunteers completed more than 2,200 service hours. The work was a value to the community of more than $80,000 – dollars the nonprofits were able to save and put toward their most important services.” According to Independent Sector, the national value of a volunteer hour is $28.54.
Spring Days of Caring will run May 2-6. Registration opens Tuesday and closes April 6, and UWHC will connect volunteer teams and agencies for final project planning on or before April 25. To learn more, register a volunteer team, or register a project, visit the UWHC’s website.
Volunteer projects submitted are required to put in place COVID-19 safety protocols appropriate for the work being done and will be communicated to the volunteer team. United Way works with Hancock Public Health to be in alignment with current COVID-19 protocols and guidelines.
“If things keep moving in a positive direction, maybe we won’t need COVID protocols in May,” Mayle said. “We continue to follow the situation closely and will do everything we can to make sure everyone is comfortable and safe when they volunteer.”
In September, UWHC will host a second opportunity to participate in Days of Caring. Fall Days of Caring will run Sept. 19-21, and a separate registration will open for those dates later this year.
Last year’s volunteer teams represented: Marathon Petroleum Corp., Whirlpool Corp., Cooper Tire & Rubber Co./Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., First National Bank of Pandora, Freudenberg-NOK Sealing Technologies, Blanchard Valley Health System, the McComb High School Future Farmers of America Club, City Apparel, Fifth Third Bank, Aktion Club of Hancock County, LaRiche Chevrolet Cadillac, Team Elect Judge Bishop, Reineke & Roush Financial Planning Group, and Gilmore Jasion and Mahler, Ltd.
