Findlay, Ohio (March 25, 2021) - United Way of Hancock County is offering an online, free tax preparation option. The VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program is not available in Hancock County this year, but there is an online alternative.
MyFreeTaxes, sponsored by United Way worldwide and found online at myfreetaxes.com, helps individuals file their taxes free. Select the “By Myself” option on the homepage.
The free option for MyFreeTaxes is only available when “By Myself” is chosen for the preparation method. There is no VITA assistance available in Hancock County through the “With Assistance” option.
It was announced earlier that no VITA assistance would be available this year, in the interest of COVID-19 safety for both clients and volunteers.
The link to MyFreeTaxes can be found on the United Way of Hancock County’s website, liveunitedhancockcounty.org. Click on the "Programs" tab and then click the VITA 2021 Statement.
The online, self-preparation option is free to any individual. The “FAQ” page on MyFreeTaxes, includes a list of the forms needed for self-preparation. United Way of Hancock County cannot answer any questions about filing income taxes.
The deadline to file 2020 federal taxes and Ohio taxes has been extended to May 17.
