United Way of Hancock County has announced Doug Hiegel as this year’s recipient of the Jeri Bjorling Memorial Distinguished Volunteer Award.
Hiegel was selected because of his many volunteer positions in the community. He has served as a member of Hancock County Home Builders Association Projects Committee, an executive board member for Black Swamp Area Council Boy Scouts of America, a member of Black Swamp Boy Scouts President Club, a member of Eagle Patrol and chairman of Black Swamp Golf Classic. He was also as a member of St. Michael School advisory council and the St. Michael Parish Festival committee and currently serves as a member of the St. Michael Parish finance committee.
Hiegel is the chairman of Hancock County Home Builders Golf Outing which benefits United Way. He was a United Way of Hancock County board member from 2006 to 2013 and board chair in 2012. He is a United Way Gaslight Society member and a member of The Heartland Board of Realtors. Hiegel is a 2008 graduate of Hancock Leadership and is a proud supporter of Liberty Benton Athletics and St. Michael School.
He is a past recipient of the Boy Scouts Silver Beaver Award. In 2009 he was nominated for the Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Person of the Year Award and Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
Hiegel has been providing insurance in the Findlay area for over 20 years at Huston Insurance- Doug Hiegel Agency.
Hiegel will be honored at the upcoming United Way of Hancock County annual meeting on Thursday, April 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn. The event is open to the public and cost to attend is $30.00 per person, or $240 for a table of eight.
